Hi,
I will be starting work at Boston med ctr and my husband works in Worcester. we are trying to decide where we should live. Looking for house or condo to buy. Really like suburbs like lexington, newton etc, but I am worried about commute to boston med ctr. Also we think it might be helpful to have some form of public transportation option available as I am worried about driving in the snow. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Framingham or Natick is like halfway between those. Cheap housing and the best thing is both of them are on the commuter rail between boston and worcester. You can take the train in like half an hour either way.
It sort of depends on what your budget is, since the suburbs between Natick and boston are extremely wealthy and have outrageous housing.

How far of a commute is acceptable for each of you? Are you looking for train access to BMC and Worcester?

We did think about Natick, but it will be too far for me. When I start work at Boston Med ctr , the hours are going to be busy. so i would preefr a shorter commute. My husband does not mind driving to worcester as its against the traffic. Our budget is 600-650k.

Hi, we are looking for train access to BMC esp for winter months. I am not used to driving in snow.

If you know what campus he'll be working at you can type in the address at MBTA Trip Planner > Find MBTA Services Near a Location and figure out commute times via the T. For example, I think Brookline Village is a bit less than 25 minutes to there.

If you want to take the T to BMC, you have to transfer to bus, so the fastest would be something on the orange or red line. You said your husband doesn't mind driving to worcester, so I would look into Quincy or Malden. These would obviously be awful commutes to Worcester, like an hour, but it's really easy to get to BMC from either of these by car or subway.

Brookline would be easy too, but the commute to BMC requires more transfers, and I don't like taking the green line. But I wouldn't be worried about driving in the winter from brookline because the roads are well cleared and you're in the city most of the time.

Maybe look into cambridge and Newton as well.

I agree with Bostonmania that driving from Brookline should be pretty easy compared to driving in the outer burbs when it snows. Do you have parking at BMC though? That's another factor. I drive to Boston twice a week & the cost of parking is ridiculous.
