Very safe, good schools, all that. I drive past that corner often (often I get gas at the Hess at the end of Auburn St). It's quiet, safe, attractive, but a pretty short walk to some stores and the commuter train/Green Line. Also easy access to Pike/128. It's a good spot.

I know that area very well and as the others have stated it is a very safe part of Newton. Nothing much ever happens there in the way of crime. It is one of the 13 villages of Newton and close to one of the oldest parts as well. You have plenty of businesses and the Charles is right down the street.

yep, it's a very nice area. The only difference with Newton is a tad less public transportation options. Newton has green line T, Auburndale doesn't. Other than that, there are local busses, express busses to Boston, commuter rail...

Auburndale has the T at Riverside.

Last season's This Old House did a series on a house in Auburndale. You should try to get your hands on those episodes.

As Casey B stated, Auburndale is right at the Riverside stop on the Green Line. I just want to add that it's part of Newton, not separate.
