I checked out Weymouth on Redfin, There are a lot of houses available in your price range and even lower. As my mother said to me when I bought my house, they're not the Taj Mahal, but they might do. There is a heavy drinking and drugging subculture at the high school, but not all kids are affected. Also Abington has a good number in your range, but the townspeople last year sliced the school budget.

114 Spring St, Hanover, MA 02339 | MLS# 71342103

I've had my eye on this one for anyone who wants to get into Hanover. Looks very nice. Hanover is about a half hour to Boston at non-peak times. Schools are excellent. This looks like a bargain. I'm surprised it has been listed this long.

There is only a handful of 3 bedroom house for sale in Braintree and they will be on the smaller side with only 1 bathroom.

You can go a little further into the South Shore if you want a larger house for $300k

It is a busy road. The house has been listed for a long time. Other houses on this street have been listed seemly FOREVER. It is not really a big house. The property taxes are high. The value proposition is just not quite there.

Spring St is not really that busy. The house is a 50's era ranch which has been added on to judging by the roofline. It's just a cozy little house, but I don;t recall OP saying she wanted a big house. Not many in Hanover in this price range. Hanover taxes are high. Gotta pay for that brand new high school somehow.

Default Dedham

Out of the towns you have narrowed it down to I would suggest Dedham is your best bet. Norwell, in my opinion is nicer with better schools however the commute to UMASS Boston would be well over an hour.

You can definitely find a 3 bedroom in Dedham for what you are looking to spend. It will probably need some work and won't be in the highest regarded neigbhorhoods. I grew up and Dedham and I work in Dedham. It's not a bad place. The schools are okay and the center of town is nice and walkable with coffee shops, etc. Not a ton of stuff there but enough. Dedham is a financially stable community as well.

I wouldn't suggest Weymouth at all. You will be able to find a nicer home there for the money but there is a reason for that.

Sure. Cars flying by at 50 mph throughout the day is not busy.

Expanding your commute to an hour (which is not unreasonable) would open up a lot of more affordable housing options.

Also, Massachusetts is filled with affordable Catholic elementary schools so that is an option if the public schools in the area where you find an affordable home are sub par. An extra 4k a year can be easier budgeted than an extra 100k in house price.

Where are those Catholic Elementary schools?

There seems to be a lot of north shore/Boston people on here. There are lot of Catholic elementary schools in Boston.

South of Boston you have Brockton, Abington, Rockland, Kingston, & Braintree.
