Well, as some of you know, we are dying to get moved up to Mass. My husband went to New Hampshire Wednesday for an interview on Thursday with the company he is working for as it would be an intracorporate transfer. The company is awesome. The territory would actually be Andover to Boston. His would be boss lives in New Hampshire and thus the interviews were there. Here is the problem...his would be boss is not taking it seriously that we want to move up there. We are currently in Florida and HATE it...if you go to the Florida portion of this site you will see many of us. My husband did his best to convince them, but he said they just smirked. He loves this company and has been with them 25 years. We WILL live in Mass....we plan on retiring there. Yeah, I know...its backwards..but if you guys come down here to live, you would understand and go back screaming!!! trust me. So, how do we convince them? HELP

Perhaps asking a few questions that would reveal your seriousness would help. Like asking about some time off for the move and settling in, and whether the company would be able to help with the expenses. Then, too, perhaps researching a couple of possible towns and then asking their opinion as to which would be best.

That would change the discussion from whether you are serious, to whether you are too serious.

Debi, It seems rather disrespectful of your husband's would-be boss to react in this manner. Do you think there are other political issues internally impacting his reaction? How would it impact his manager if he moves here? Do you think he might see it as a threat? I have no idea what's really going on behind the scenes, but this seems like an unusual reaction, even if his manager doesn't necessarily agree that moving from FL to MA is a good idea. Who's decision is it ultimately if he gets this transfer?

OOOO good questions Scarletfire....his company is wonderful, really (Moderator cut: deleted). There may be some very little amount of threat as my husband has been with the company 26 years. He likes his prospective boss up there as they have met prior in training sessions and company functions. There is always, within the company, little cliques and I am sure there is a bit of that here too! I think a lot of it is that folks think that Florida is this haven...how can you want to leave "paradise" (what a joke) for this...especially in November, cold etc. I think it will be a group effort as far as the decision goes. He talked with the area supervisor here about offing to go up there for 3 months, which would be the heart of winter, and they could decide if they wanted him...his boss here said they would hold his job open for him here until he decided. Thats amazing...but Moderator cut: deleted is a very good company. I highly recommend them and if anyone is looking for work, you can check out their web site and go for it! You asked some really good questions...I am going to ask him to see this so maybe it gets some marbles stirring...thanks!

Some people buy into the "paradise" image of Florida, and love the heat and banality of life there. I spent two years in the Keys and while it has lovely weather in the winter, it also has hurricanes and scorching Summers.

I guess some of us like it, and some don't. But trying to convince a Florida fan that there are other worthwhile places to live is difficult as you are seeing. It just does not "compute" to them.
