I grew up in that area and have friends and family in the towns mentioned and I was only reporting on mine and their experiences from what I have heard from them. I hadn't heard of the corruption but in todays world I'm not surprised.
I would say to the OP that there are good things and bad things anywhere you go.

I would avoid all of those towns (Hanson, Halifax, Whitman). Pembroke would be a better choice. Hanover/Norwell would be even better if you can afford it.
