sound cold??

well, this protest just strengthened the competition beyond measure- what a gift to Hannaford, stopnshop, and this probly saved many shaws
and thousands of people have been hurt.scarred from this,,,and there are many stories that wont be told if ever a book or movie .

market basket had the formula for cheaper food prices than Walmart- Walmart by the way, sells more groceries than anyone else in the u.s.
mb owned the malls that their stores anchored, bringing in income that paid store debt- they can operate at lower margins/lower prices because of this
mb is a no frills high volume, low margin supermarket-that paid employees well

this protest, and conflict has scarred this company forever, no matter the forward direction, this company will now be operating from debt, now a level playing field with Hannaford and stopnshop
which means higher prices..

right now, many fulltimers are contemplating working elsewhere- and have applied elsewhere
and many part timers have already done this

and since day one of the walk out and protest, theirs been some warehouse workers, who need to feed their families,, that came back everyday, and they probly got threatened by the management that walked out, that they will lose their jobs if they continue to come to work
"no matter what happens"

I just hope things don't get more ugly - the company is welcoming everyone back at full pay
if they choose not to come back, they abandoned their position and responsibilities

market basket is not the state or federal gov't they cant operate at a loss forever
Two thumbs up!

Wait, employees on the picket lines are still getting paid? For voluntarily not working?

Sure, the current "management" knows that it's the employees who made the business what it is, along with Arthur T. They haven't dared alienate them, they have tried to woo them back. Even Gov. Patrick whose wife works for the law firm that supports Arthur S. practically urged them to go back to work.

The new "management" thought they could just kick Arthur T. out and it would be business as usual, that the employees would be thrilled for work for them and the customers would be thrilled with the new "management" and whatever changes it would bring.

No so. And that is what this is about.

The previous mention of Stop & Shop.... Their prices are more expensive and several months ago they closed all of their stores in New Hampshire because other stores are cheaper (Hannafords, Market Basket).

The story just keeps getting better, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick told employees they should go back to work, and his wife works for the law firm that represents the Artie S side of the conflict. Conflict of interest.

This is going to affect the Market Basket shareholders, employees, customers, politicians... and it could keep going.
Who is this we you are referring to? You don't speak for every person. With the attitude these MB workers and customers have that they are standing up and fighting the corporate greed they think is happening with MB, it would be pretty hypocritical if they don't exercise this attitude with the rest of their life and what choices they make when buying things. I am willing to bet they all use products and services by companies that have actually slashed pay and benefits for their employees, had large layoffs and manufactured their products in factories in Asia with poor working conditions among other things that these protesters are "fighting" for.

Yes and no layoffs for doing nothing for weeks except picket.

(No, people do not have such a choice in other areas of their buying, not much of a choice anyway. We can try to buy green, buy local, but there isn't much choice left due to big business owning almost everything.)

I prefer the word "classist" myself. I think too many peeps use the word racist when they really mean classist and that does a huge disservice to the poor.
You're correct. I prefer classist also.
