I am Asian, grew up in metro-Boston who also happened to spend 10+ years in SoCal. My recommendation for you is to live maybe 40 minutes West of Boston if you will be a rep all over New England. Near Boston congestion is just a pain and no point having to deal with it M-F. If you live in a town like Framingham (which has lots of apartments, safe and near major Interstates N/S, E/W), you can easily jet into Boston/surrounding on the weekends. You will find Boston is 'serviceable' to get some of the food perks back home..nothing like SGV or KTown, but there will be a handful of joints that are decently authentic.

As a single guy, I think you will be miserable if you are more than 1 hr outside Boston on weekends. It's not the easiest region to make new friends at your age outside of Boston (in SoCal people are like single to 45....) so that's why I think Framingham is a decent compromise. Also, get an AWD car...weather is very challenging and you will REALLY appreciate it. Good luck

Thanks for this info! glad to know you've lived in both areas and are familiar with SGV/ktown areas, etc. really appreciate the info!

Just outside of worcester or Providence maybe in between 290/146. An hour commute to boston from both. And both have airports. I would think 15_20miles outside of major cities would be nicer and cheaper. 1500 for rent 80-100 annually can be comfortable for sure. Given that you will be covering the NE a centrally located area with quick access to major highways would be ideal. Worcester 290 may be a good starting point as its an hour from boston95/providence146/95/hartford and 1.5-2 for the northern states NH/ME borders. Racism is not a major factor that i am aware of, but if your concerned i would just stay out of inner city areas. Although its less likely you would be considering such, given the amount of travel you will be doing. Quincy i do know does have a higher Asian population although it has become a little run down for sure.

No idea about the Asian population but my immediate suggestion that came to mind was Worcester. You'd be fairly central to most states. If you need to go to Maine would still be a hike although probably no worse than from Providence. Can you find out if there's a particular route or area of NE that you'll be in? For example if you seldom go to VT then perhaps Providence wouldn't be too bad. I do know there are a couple colleges in the Worcester area. People seem to find it to be more affordable than providence and Boston. Are you open to the idea of a roommate at first? May be easier to get settled, see what area you want to live in rather than being locked into a lease somewhere that is less than ideal.

I haven't read through the comment so my apologies if I'm reiterating what others have already said.

OP, have you ever experienced Winter?

I'd take the weather of Southern California over New England any day of the week.

Wish you the best of luck with relocating!

Also, if you are looking for an area or city with a large Asian population look into Quincy, Massachusetts.
