i just moved out of Boston after living there for 3 years. it was horrible. i hope to never go back. btw, read the title, i said worst places to live, not visit. it's a great place to visit and i highly recommend everyone visiting

imagine buying a new car. if my budget is 10k, i would expect something used, slow, crappy, broken down, old, etc etc. if my budget is 100k, i would expect something new, fast, luxurious, cool, etc etc. well living in Mass/Boston, with that 100k budget, you still get something used, slow, crappy, broken down, old, etc etc. i could list over 100 things that proves my point. the cost of living is just ridiculous

also, everyone i met in Mass that grew up there loves the city, so i know all the fanboys will be trolls in this thread

Yep. And are you slamming Boston or the entire state? May as well explain while you're at it. Have you even BEEN to the rest of the state?

Someone who buys a new car in Boston for $100,000 has a lot be be angry about.

If this was actually a metaphor for a high COL, it really is high in Boston. Two or three times the COL in Boca Raton, where I live, which is expensive for FL. But it's only about half the COL in Manhattan. I've sadly crossed both off my list due to high COL.

For the cost, if one has the funds, there is great value delivered, though. Not a 10,000 car for 100,000, but a million dollar lifestyle for. . .well, probably at least half a million a year.

entire state. i live pretty much in the city by Boston, but most of my friends lived out of the city, out to the point they were closer to another state than downtown. cost of living is still ridiculously high

Try NJ (other than the SW area) and you might see that Massachusetts RE isn't all that bad in comparison.

so besides the high COL, which is a function of the good paying jobs available to those qualified and great education (both public and private), what makes it the "worst"?

based on just COL, you would also hate NYC, SD, SF, LA, and DC.
