It may be my imagination, but I have been seeing an uptick in mask wearing in my area lately. I'm not sure why.

I've felt the same way. Perhaps it is because the volume of people out and about is more than before and there's going to be more mask wearers. Or because there is a lot more people out and about more people feel like they need to mask.

The good news is that COVID in the wastewater is way down https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm.

I don't think it has any relation to how people want to "be seen." People wear masks to help prevent covid if they are in an at risk category or if they're just getting over covid and don't want to take a chance on spreading it. I haven't noticed any change either way in mask wearing here in central CT or when I visit WMass.

This, and I also think some people are probably doing it if they have the sniffles or a cold and need to be out and about anyway. 3 years ago, it was seen as weird to wear a mask for non-work related day-to-day activity if you didn’t live in Asia. It certainly won’t catch on here like it has there, but I’m sure there are more people who will throw one on now.

I’ve seen an uptick in usage here too. Nothing crazy, but definitely more than a few months ago.

Lots of people I know and their kids are sick right now. Strep, fevers, stomach bugs.

When someone wears it when walking outside alone or driving alone, it's clearly a visual signal. Even in synagogue the synagogue "president" is masked when sitting 12 feet away from the nearest person on the beema (sp) or pulpit area, then unmasks at the end of services to read the announcements of upcoming activities.

I do air travel almost every other week, and have definitely gotten less paranoid and more practical about this. Generally have my mask off while walking through the terminal...put my surgical blue mask on when in the TSA line...and switch to a KN95 on board. Has worked for me so far. I do see a fair number of folks still masking when they get on board...especially to/from Logan (~30%?).
