Could it be that (the imperfect) mask wearers are trying to minimize their chance of getting other besides COVID infections?

For example leprosy which could be spread by coughing or sneezing ?

2-3 years of antibiotics doesn’t sound like fun - even if it would work.

Easier to just cover the face somewhat in public?

There are some infections that could lead to cancer.
They say that ~20% of cancers are caused by some types of infections, including airborne.

https://www.cancer.org/cancer/risk-p...to-cancer.html

In short, with so many more people on the planet, the widespread international movement of people with exotic diseases everyone’s
chance of getting infected with something - including by the airborne infections are getting higher.

We shouldn’t get our panties in a knot over some people choosing to try to protect themselves…even if their masks are imperfect.

We don’t know if those masked people we see have an impaired immune system or mental phobias, etc

Let them be..

Seriously? They do not work 100%, they lower risk for you and people around you. Same with mask, condoms etc.

We are not discussing this though. You mentioned Freedom. There is no absolute freedom in society. Belts, speed limits, various safety requirements when updating your condo etc.

If you noticed cities with dense population had more stringent rules, than suburbs. Even less rules in remote places. There was a reason for this.

It's like people who think they need to wear sunscreen inside not near a window. Wearing a mask on a walk outside is overkill

We can talk about semantics but people should be free to do what they want. You can't speed because it effects others. You can't stop a respiratory virus . Forcing people to wear a mask or take a vaccine is getting rid of body autonomy. Lockdowns are unconstitutional you don't have a right not to get sick.its part of nature.

Seat belts and condoms work most of the time. Masks do not work at all and you are not responsible for someone else's health.

It is not semantics.
Can you drive with any speed? No different.

They cannot lock you at your home unless you are on house arrest, but there are some places with certain rules in extraordinary situations. There are no requirements to wear masks during regular times.

This would not only be news to the medical professionals who've been wearing masks for decades, but if it were even partly true, they would be the sickest individuals on the planet.

Honestly can't believe we're still litigating this BS 3 yrs after the onset of a pandemic that's killed 4 million people worldwide. We should all be thankful Covid wasn't something a lot more gruesome and fatal like Ebola. Half the conspiratorial nutsos would be dead in the time spent arguing about whether Ebola was real or not.

New highly mutated variant: BA.2.86 aka Pirola.

Scientists race to understand highly mutated coronavirus variant spotted in four countries, including the US

" A highly mutated new variant of the virus that causes Covid-19 has countries on alert as scientists scramble to understand how far it has spread and how well our immunity will defend against it.

The new variant, called BA.2.86 and nicknamed Pirola by variant hunters on social media, has more than 30 amino acid changes to its spike protein "

" “It is unusual for corona to change so significantly and develop 30 new mutations. The last time we saw such a big change was when Omicron appeared,” said Morten Rasmussen, a senior researcher at the Statens Serum Institut, in a news statement on the variant. "
