Retiring couple from NJ interested in a place to settle near Cape Cod. Looking for recommendations of safe areas also within close proximity to hospital and shopping. Open to areas in the SouthEastern section of Massachusetts, near major highways a plus.

Beth Israel Hospital one of the premier hospitals in Boston has a location in Plymouth MA. A full service hospital. So you could locate in any of the towns surrounding Plymouth.

Budget? Size of house? How much land? How close to the water? Type of town? Semi-rural? Suburban? Is walkability important? How upscale do you want the town to be? Level of dining? What nearby amenities are important? Beach? Golf? Sailing/boating? Green space to dog walk? Bicycling? Local college for courses? How far from an airport? Access to a real city?

I’d point out that the ocean temperature is different east of the canal vs west of the canal. The South Shore is around 68F today. The South Coast along Buzzards Bay is more like 75F. Coming from New Jersey with warmer ocean temperatures, it’s something to consider.

Hi GeoffD,

This is an older post but I thought I would follow up as I am interested in your CapeCod recommendations. i would be interested in advice on a town that is close to water and a very walkable town area, such as bookshop, coffee shop, library, hardware, yoga, etc. I am looking for a small house myself, such as 1500 sf max.

thank you!

Sounds like you're describing Chatham. Of course, it's on the cape and not near it, but it checks all those boxes.
