You would have to be a real snowflake to get offended by someone just pointing out that you are budgeting much less than what you are paying now.

That's like telling somebody they don't know how to do math or use a mortgage calculator. A lot of us would just laugh in your face, but there legitimately are a lot of "snowflakes" on the internet and you need to be aware of that. Just try to be helpful and move along. We are not social workers here.

I think you are the only one that is upset here.

Not upset. But I do realize it's not my job do put other posters in their place, and I apologize for that. Have a good evening.

You seem to be missing that this couple probably doesn't have backup funds if something goes wrong with the house. I personally think the estimate of $200 a month for home maintenance is too low. Especially when purchasing a $250k home in MA. The house may not even be "move-in ready".

Yeah that $200 I threw out there is more of a minimum/best case scenario.

At least you tried.

Imagine setting your budget on something and asking around to see what would meet the criteria you set and you get all the non-sense that has been going on in these last few post.

OP thankfully got a solid list I hope. Saw quite a few good mentions. As another poster mentioned, most likely the house might need some work so definitely will need to keep that in mind.

Places with homes available and already mentioned:

Worcester
Shirley
Fitchburg
Attleboro
Milford
Mendon

I live in Worcester. You can forget finding a decent house with a yard in a safe neighborhood for that price. You could four or five years ago but not now. My house has gone up almost 80 grand in the last three and a half years. It is crazy here in the city right now.

Seriously. Worcester is effectively out unless one wishes to live in truly rough neighborhoods. Not plush backyards in those ‘hoods.

I live in a C-D coined "rough" 'hood and nothing in Worcester even comes close. OP didn't state they have kids so I assume they aren't worried about districting or anything like that. It's good to mention that to OP though but just pointing out what's rough to you is just fine to another.
