Of course I think it kind of also depends is that how much you try to paint the word Asian. I know of some areas with a high Russian population the state but I don't know if they'd actually refer to themselves as Asian. Then you've got your Indian and Southeast Asian populations. The highest populated area from people from China would most likely be Quincy and terms of Cambodia that would be Lowell.

I've heard pressure cooker being described for Duxbury as well as Longmeadow public schools

IMHO, Lexington would be a perfect spot.

Yes, LHS can be pressure cooker but only if you let it become that. There is a lot of competition among students and parents to get into the top schools and where going to NESCAC schools are considered a let down. The happiest kids that my kids know from Lexington are all high achievers but weren't 100% committed to school. They played sports and did outside activities. They still went to good schools and are now moving ahead in their careers.

The thing about LHS is that the highest achievers are typically undifferentiated from each other. The top schools can pick and choose any of them to fill the typical slot they want. Often, top kids from LHS don't get into the top schools. For your daughter, that can be an edge - new kid from the south, finishing at a top HS in the northeast, compare/contrast for a great essay.

As was just mentioned, Lowell has the largest or second largest (after Long Beach) concentration of Cambodian-Americans in the country. Not great schools though.

Chelmsford, Westford, Littleton along 495 would not be a bad commute to Lexington, have some Asian populations (8%, 22%[10% Indian, 10% Chinese, 2% other], 2% respectively), and good schools. Those three towns are White and Asian only though.

Lowell isn't "not great", it's quite bad.

Are there any folks with first-hand (or close to that) knowledge of what the Medford High School is like (in terms of quality, diversity, bullying, drugs)?

While it appears to have more diversity in teaching & student staff, it seems maybe rougher around the edges, in terms of academic progress/scores, special needs stats, etc.
