If I had no kids - Beacon Hill. Since I do have kids I guess none of those places would be a dream place for me.

I know many people in that price range who live in Brookline or inner Boston and one of their 'likes' for living in those areas is that they don't have to drive much. They can get 50% more house south of Route 9 in Brookline, and the #1 reason that's the case is because it puts the Green Line further away. Houses in Salisbury/Corey Farm, Coolidge, and other urban-yet-quiet areas are as expensive as they are because they're close (but not too close) to mass transit.
I understand that the Brookline commute to Harvard Square isn't going to appeal to most people, but I was just expressing my own personal preferences which I noted were not likely shared by many others.

The one person I knew who lived in Brookline and worked at Harvard biked when he wanted to and drove when he didn't want to.

That's fine. I'm just pointing out that what may be surprising to some people is that a lot of affluent people buying in the urban parts of the area are doing so expressly so they don't have to drive and often prefer not to do so even though it's something they could do. Walking, biking, and/or taking mass transit is preferred for this group, even when car travel may be more convenient. I will frequently take the T to Coolidge, even when doing so costs more -- both in time and money -- than it would to drive.

I’ll take 310 Beacon Street if you sweeten the deal by throwing in a supermodel.

My personal preferences are :

1. Single story especially as I age. Could be master on main level with two guest rooms on 2nd level.
2. Dedicated computer room/office on main level.
3. 2-3 car garage attached to the house.
4. Full bath off master bedroom with private toilet room.
5. Open design with plenty of large windows.
6. Year round golf weather. Wait this is the MA forum. Sorry......LOL

That's my house on Hilton Head. Quirky, and not worth 3 million. I wish it was!

Interesting to read this thread and see the responses. It seems most people's first choice is what I would consider my last choice. Absolutely nothing wrong with that as we all have our preferences, but it's just interesting to see the contrast.

I thought it had to be within the Boston city limits which is why I picked his condo.
