The Chinese is pretty bad here. Even in Chinatown. It's better if you go with a native speaker, but still.

I always take such assessments with a grain of salt. What most Americans call "Chinese" food, are actually American concoctions that you'll *never* find in China or Taiwan. Kind of like "chicken tikka masala" which most people associate with Indian food, but was concocted in Birmingham, UK.

Very fair point. But when you do go with a native speaker, you're rarely getting the same preparation, or dishes. But the rank and file Chinese places on Clement in SF, never mind Chinatown there, to be heads and tails better.

And apologies if you're one of those who actually recognizes that Egg Foo Young, General Tso's Chicken, and Lo Mein noodles are not truly Chinese foods.

I'm from a part of the country where Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese (throw Korean in there for good measure) options are available on every other street. There's just not the same culture or demand for it here.

What and where are your favorite Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese places within Boston outside of Chinatown?

The Americanized Chinese food is as good here as it is in any major American city. When someone says “there isn’t good Chinese food here” they almost always mean more traditional Chinese food.

"Ethnic food" sounds about white? Maybe some NEMA and some Latin food, but still..what?

Went out in Boston last night for pretty much the first time since covid hit. It was typical for a 12oz glass of beer to be $10 not including tip and tax.
$10 for a beer? Lol

I was in Buffalo and had 3 for $12, Charlotte I paid $5 for a rum n coke

There are beers that are overpriced at $4, and others that are cheap at $10.
