With points programs like airlines and hotels, the bank buys points in bulk at heavy discount, and the merchant often gets waived or reduced merchant fees from the card. Something similar is likely in place here, too.
Amazon saving on interchange would alone yield massive savings given the number of transactions they process. Like you, I assume Amazon allows Chase (JPM) to buy points at discount in exchange for reduced interchange costs. There’s probably more back scratching, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the underlying motivation given the scale.

Normally I don't think many of us want two new banks, opposite each other, in our community but they sure beat having gas stations around when there's still a Speedway down the street.

Anybody recommend Chase over whatever bank they've had locally? I don't have much money to invest now, so I wouldn't be using their investment services and frankly know little about money, which is shameful. If I did want to open a small investment account when I'm more financially stable, hopefully later this year, is a bank any different than Fidelity, Putnam, etc.? Any reason to choose one over the other?
I don’t have any opinion on chase but as a fellow Quincy person, I find this rush of condos, banks and more condos quite an interesting phenomenon. These bank branch’s are clean, well manicured and beat those ugly run down gas stations so they are definitely an improvement at least for me.

I live in Oregon and we have had Chase Bank for a long time. They bought out another bank where we had an account. They seem okay. We just have a checking and savings account. We get alerts if there is suspicious activity. I don't know the exact rates but we have not really had any issues other than the interest earned is crappy. :-)
