We ended up going to Mother’s Pizza for anyone interested That’s the usual place we go and when my mom found out it was open until 6 that was a no brainer since she loves that place. Now that, that is done it’s off for a hearty Asian feast tomorrow

This year we have two mini celebrations rather than one long celebration since we’ll all be working around the holidays in some capacity.
I usually try to cook one night and then do Asian takeout the other. Sometimes, we do one kind of Asian cuisine Christmas Eve and then Chinese on Christmas day. It seems Asian restaurants are really pretty much the only ones open until a reasonable hour on Christmas eve and pretty much the only thing open on Christmas day aside from the movie theaters.

We called some of our favorite Chinese restaurants yesterday and had a lot of trouble getting an order in. Bernard's in Chestnut Hill wasn't even answering the phone probably because they had so many orders already. CK Shanghai in Wellesley told us we could pick up before 3:30 or after 8 PM. We just decided to switch things up and go with Thai food instead. We ended ordering from Little Spoon which just opened in Needham Center a few months ago. It's the same owners as Four Spoons in Newton Centre.

Good question! I guess not all Asians are christians and maybe a lot of the early Chinese immigrants were not Christian.

There are a number of blog posts/articles out there that theorize the tradition started in NYC in the 1800's and it started because a lot of the Chinese restaurant owners did not celebrate Christmas and that drew in a lot of business from NY'ers who didn't celebrate Christmas and voila! A beautiful tradition was born.

One year my wife and I met my son and his girl friend at a Chinese restaurant in Boston's Chinatown on Christmas Day. Chinatown and all the restaurants were busy as all get out.

Last year, the line was out the door and down the block to pick up Chinese takeout at CK Shanghai in Wellesley. If you celebrate Christmas, you're probably not aware of how busy Asian restaurants get on Christmas Eve and Day but it's literally their busiest day of the year.

The Golden Temple in Brookline was always a good spot to be out and party at on Christmas. Total madhouse.

Speaking of Christmas feasting I should note that our regular Christmas eatery had to change this year. At least according to Google Pho 1 in Waltham was closed this year for Christmas. I called and got no response so rather than spend precious minutes actually traveling there we went to Absolutely Asia instead.

I think I only went there for takeout once before and had been avoiding it for some reason I can’t remember. Maybe just the less than stellar online reviews. In person though it was delightful. Huge, generous portions and lightning fast speed. Tasty too

Some people leave negative reviews for the pettiest of reasons. In the overall 3-5 star range I've found them very unreliable. But if a place has a ton of reviews and their overall rating is a 1 or 2, I take it more seriously.

Pretty much. I'll consistently see reviews saying great food, good portions, etc etc.... dirty bathroom, 1 star!

It's like, GTFO.

But most Chinese are not. I think it's fair to say that most Chinese restaurants are open in the Boston area on Christmas eve, not necessarily most Asian restaurants.

Or...I saw a mouse! Yeah okay. If you're in any Boston building this can happen. Just 'cause you're not seeing them at other places doesn't mean they ain't there. Then you have those who leave 1 star simply because someone didn't kiss their precious @ss enough.
