I remember at one food establishment I worked at in Harvard Square in the late 80s, the owner of the place said "be thankful we see mice, that means we don't have rats".

Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it was an eye opener.

I never heard that before but something about it makes sense to me. Sort of along the lines of you won't ever see a small sparrow in the middle of a pigeon flock competing for food.

The first time I saw mice in a restaurant was at the Red Hat (RIP) when I was probably 16 or 17. The server saw me looking wide-eyed at the spot where 3-4 were walking around and she just casually said "oh yeah... there here and in every other restaurant in the city." I've since seen plenty more (and worse) elsewhere.

The thing about reviews that always gets me is the disparity between sources like Facebook, Google, Yelp (if anyone's still using it), Tripadvisor, OpenTable, etc. It's not unusual to see a whole star (or more) difference for the same restaurant depending on where you look.
