Ok fine. I'm not against a casino in southeast mass but will have an impact on region C if they ever try. The thing though is frankly they can't rub together two nickels. Supposedly they owe Genting 300 million.
If they have the money go ahead and do it but if they don't then don't bother. The last thing the area needs is a half assed project that gets stopped midway though. I don't think we have enough contractors for this..
It’s their money and their land, if that’s what they want to do more power to them. Unlike many other aggrieved for fun and profit groups Native Americans really did get the raw deal and we do owe them.
It's exactly the type of setting on which to locate a casino, not an uncontrolled and densely populated urban environment where it will spur more disorder and despair. Tribes have security and law enforcement that will do tap dances around the average city police, with the federal and proprietary controls to go with it.
As a Mass native and current Malaysian resident, I am very familiar with Genting, as they are a Malaysian company.
If you want to see what they've done in the mountains of Malaysia, you might want to check their resort Genting Highlands: https://www.rwgenting.com/
I used to go from time to time and the casino part of the resort sucks. The rest is kind of fun although it can be a bit tacky. Since it's 6000 feet above sea level, it's nice to go up there and enjoy the spring-like weather.
I followed them on reelwamps.com for years
Lots of inside information that makes you think twice about how much they are owed.
They have become a welfare tribe, deeply in debt, poorly managed and all due to their OWN greed in chasing a casino.
It's sad.
C'mon, man...you can't be this naïve. Who do you think really finances/owns the Indian casinos?
bad credit to anything means limitations. Now they supposedly still own 300 acres in Middleboro. Basically for a number of years they jumped place to place and bought land thinking they could get recognition. Ok fine but now it just seems like it's just in Taunton. Which again is fine but what's the point of having hundreds of acres of land just sitting there. If they own Genting 300 million I doubt each acre is worth a million in Middleboro. I actually had an internship with the woman that worked directly with them when they were engaging that town for awhile. It left a huge bad taste in town.
If they go foward it screws up the possibility of a region 3 casino which has been dead for years but would technically be better for the state (tribes have a deal via governor patrick which means hardly any taxes).
The tribe is broke I mean really really broke. We're talking shopping layaway at Building 19 and dust is a condiment broke. If they really owe 300 million to Genting they'd have to pay that off before any lender would consider them. 300 million is quite a bit to owe.
