To renew mine it cost me $225. This state wouldnt accept my bc even though Ive had a DL for 45 yrs here. The state said that the bc wasnt legit cause it didnt have a registration number. I called the state where I was born and the guy told me to move to a decent state! That Ma was full of it. Lots of bc from many many years ago didnt have registration numbers. Nothing they could do about it! So then I called the dep of homeland security cause Ma was blaming them for the license requirements. They said no way! Its Ma problem! So finally I got an expedited passport with the same bc. No problem. then i used that number to renew my license! This wasnt for a real ID either. just a reg dl renewal. Now with a passport dont need a real ID anyway. This is a crappy state!

Driver's licensing is a power of the states under our Constitution. No such federal power exists.

That's so funny. When I was flying back here a couple of months ago, a guy in line in front of me was pulled aside because his license had expired. The guy said to TSA , "Have you ever tried to go to the Massachusetts Registry?" They let him on the plane after that.

My recent experience where you need an appointment was quite civilized.

AAA is the way to go if you cannot do it online.
Also pick the right AAA office. Some may have 2-3 hours wait times or longer, others are basically waiting for you.

I have other friends who had the same problem. One was even born in Boston! What saved her was an old document from the Boston Public School when she entered kindergarden, many many years ago. The RMV accepted that as proof she was really born in Ma. Bizarre. The other friends and even my husband already had passports so they never used their BCs. Their bcs didnt have registration numbers either.

Mine was as well, the cluster part was actually getting that appointment. I had to travel 45 minutes out of my way, when there were at least 5 RMVs closer.
