Driving home from Boston yesterday afternoon on Mass Pike, the traffic was 35 mph from Newton basically all the way to the 395 exit. I’ve seen this before, and apparently the sun is in peoples eyes. Do people not understand how to use their sun visor or wear sunglasses? My god what a joke.

That's normal rush hour traffic.

I guess it would depend on the timing. Historically people have left earlier on Fridays.

I wouldn't necessarily presume it's "clear sailing." Traffic just beyond your line of sight can stop on a dime.

Yes, Friday afternoons on the Pike are a known cluster. Sometimes all the way to the I-84 entrance!

Also a long weekend coming up, so one would expect even extra traffic.

I’d understand if there were accidents or construction, but Olalala there were non impediments with the exception of the large yellow ball in the sky….

The natural restriction down from 3 lanes to 2 (at the I-84 branch-off) can have ripple effects for miles back, depending on the amount of traffic. Which, given the holiday weekend, was probably an added factor.

Don't forget about all the classy people who weave in and out, tailgate and brake check while they're giving you the one finger salute. This can be a contributing factor to slowing down traffic. One dangerous move can have a chain effect for cars behind who then have to step on their brakes. The driving behavior of people seems to have gotten worse lately if that's even possible.
