A plumber charged me $450 to replace 2 toilets and $700 to replace 2 vanities with faucets (I purchased the parts separately). He picked them up and hauled away the old ones. I thought that was very expensive but it needed to be done quickly so I paid it. He also offered to replace a kitchen faucet for $50. It turned out to be harder than he thought so he refused that to do that part. So now I have to find another plumber for the kitchen faucet.

Did I get ripped off or are these crazy prices still normal?

Pretty standard in the city and nicer towns. Contractors generally aren’t cutting you any breaks on labor if you purchase the parts yourself. Best idea is to establish a long term relationship with contractors you trust when you can. Even then, I’m rarely pleasantly surprised how inexpensive something is.

Nowadays, I don't think that's unreasonable.

I'd say you got a good deal. I had 1 vanity with faucet installed about 3 months ago and it was $750. Also, the old vanity had already gotten removed and hauled away so he didn't even have to deal with that.

Now that sounds like a complete ripoff assuming he only connected the faucet and didn’t move any of the plumbing, the whole process takes about 15 minutes.

He did it in two separate days. I guess it was an okay job except the vanities were smaller than the previous ones. So he just cut vinyl floor pieces around it instead of doing it the right way by connecting all planks together.

No one will notice except me the homeowner. But it bothers me that the floor is not waterproof, so I will pay a floor person $400 to take out the vanities and toilets again and install flooring the right way underneath. I should have had the floor guy do this first. Rookie mistake.

Union rate for a plumber is $113.65/hr

No plumbing was moved and also had to coordinate it to be done on the same day that the the countertop company could come as the top was a custom cut for the space. I was just happy to be able to get someone reputable out in a reasonable time and get it done and over with.
