We certainly have no shortage of those wonderful things, now do we?

Household size continues to shrink. It’s totally reasonable to have full rental occupancy statistics and a slightly contracting population. My town dropped a bit of population in the last census despite a bunch of new construction. Lots of aging empty nesters. Lots of younger childless couples.

Based on what do you say this? Although, there was talk about the 2020 census severely OVERCOUNTING. That's probably where any error would result from.

Interesting. Meanwhile the Cape and Islands have seen a huge population increase.
While towns are making a push for more affordable housing, MDEP is slamming homeowners with new Title V regs. Communities are cracking down on seasonal rentals to alleviate the affordable housing shortage but adding to the waste water issues by trying to force summer home rentals into year round housing. Its a literal

Affordable housing isn't helping anything. If anything it's making things more expensive.

No its not. Census.gov is the website of the US Census Bureau which is the agency that collects all of the population and economy data for the government.
Open the link and you will see these are the 2022 estimates.

Um because the 'affordable' housing goes up and everyone else's taxes raise.

Not to mention quality of life goes down for the people who have paid market price for a home in that town. More people equals more traffic and more crowded schools. Not a fan of affordable housing at all. If people can't afford a certain town you find another that you can afford.

COL and taxes increase when businesses and municpalities have to pay employees substantially more to make it worth their while to commute to the Cape and Islands. Businesses that have to close down for multiple days because of lack of staff ultimately contribute less to tax coffers. Affordable housing for working people will benefit the entire region.

We have police officers and teachers in our town who have only been able to purchase homes because of affordable housing developments. The best employees are those who have put down roots in the community.

Police officers make 150k+ these days in many towns. Most that are married and have a working spouse should easily be able to afford a house in a nearby town. Also most cops and teachers don't even want to live in the town they work on because they don't want to run into parents and people they've arrested while they're out and about.

Teachers and cops are typically not the people moving into affordable housing developments.
