Where you are getting your data?

Teacher’s, police officers, firefighters and dispatchers early in their career would qualify for affordable housing lotteries. Many apply. I know this for a fact because when new homes are built, that information is sent out to every department and school on Cape.

As far as not living in the town they work, you’re painting with a broad brush. You would not be privy to the addresses of police personnel as many law enforcement agencies suppress their employees residency in public records.

Seems I'm 100% correct about what the point being made was. Sorry you completely missed it.

Very impolite of you to try to "correct" someone when you didn't read.

Thanks for the assist- unfortunately this is par for the course here.

That said, here are some accurate stats for anyone who prefers facts over generalizations and personal anecdotes:

In Barnstable County, the salary for a single person to be eligible for affordable housing is just shy of $70k a family of 4 $87k.

The Sandwich PD (where I live) was advertising for civil service patrol officer transfers. The hourly rate for officers with

1 year experience:$28.21
2 years: $29.53
3 years: $30.86

These guys aren’t making $150k per year. ^

These guys aren’t either. ¥

4 years $32.20
5 years $33.16
10 years $34.00
20 years experience is $34.85

Firefighters living in affordable housing is laughable as well. In boston they make about 200k and most have a side job where they make quite a bit too.
im not saying you are wrong, just cite your sources.

Shes not wrong, sources would be nice. But probably not even necessary. GLobe basically covers the extreme salaries (and overtime) every year.

Cops earn way too much here due to stupid agreements regarding OT and detail pay both of which make up a significant part of the total compensation.

The latter is an outright scam, e.g., see https://dailycollegian.com/2017/11/t...xpayers-blind/

"These same police union contracts that are preventing officers from being replaced are also responsible for those same officers being paid substantial incomes for additional duties that could be done by minimum wage employees. This is thanks to an agreement between the city of Boston and the Boston Police Detective Benevolent Society in 1984, which mandated that police officers be paid for, at minimum, four hours of work per detail assignment. This means that even if a police officer is only directing traffic for 30 minutes, they will be paid for four hours."

So just one detail assignment a day (at $60/hr) would bring in an extra $60k per year.

EDIT: Also see https://thescopeboston.org/6177/news...e-detail-work/

Sure, but those aren't new recruits or people with 1-2 years experience, which is what the discussion was about.

Of course someone with 8 years experience or 15 and has first dibs on details wouldn't be eligible for affordable housing, but that's not relevant to the discussion that was being had.

In terms of gross salaries everything included:
500 employee of BPD made between 120k to 140k, another 500 made 140k-167k another 500 made 167k to 210k 367 made between 210k and 433k 2 made over 1mil 500 80k to 120k roughly 800 made less than 80k, of these about half made less than 30k (probably part time

BPD gross salaries:
2 make over 1 million dollars
367 between 433k and 210k
500 between 167k and 210k
500 between 140k and 167k
500 between 120k and 140k
500 between 80k and 120k
roughly 800 less than 80k with about half of that pulling in less than 30k (part time or something I assume)
So of the roughly 3,300 employees of BPD a bit less than half make over 150k and thee vast majority make over 100k

For the BFD
61 make 245k to 336k
500 make 245k to 175k
500 make 175k to 150k
500 make 150k to 85k
170 make less than 85 (with a few dozens making less than 50 (part time?)
So the majority makes over 150k

https://data.boston.gov/dataset/empl...arnings-report

PS the top 10 most paid employees of Boston are from BPD
The first employee not from BPD or BFD is at number 34, former superintendent Brenda Casselius. (and the 33 before her are 31 from BPD and 2 from BFD).
After Casselius you need to go down to position 122 to find someone not from BPD or BFD, after that you need to go down to 403, only around 450th position you start actually getting sort of a mix.

Again, why are people focusing on the high end, or even the mean or median, when the entire point was entry level. Doesn't make any sense.
