I've read through all the prior threads and was curious what the current view is on Collierville vs. Germantown for public schools after all the annexation, etc. We have a child in a gifted program and maybe considering a move to the area. How would you compare Germantown to Collierville schools? Particularly elementary & middle schools. Is there a school that is considered the best elementary & MS in each of those districts? Also, is one better than the other for gifted education?

Also, I'd like to find out about the private school options close to Germantown/Collierville. Is there one that will provide a better education than those public districts, particularly for a gifted child?

Finally, probably not an option for us, but how do the North Mississippi schools compare to Collierville/Germantown/Privates?

Thanks!

Here is a post that lists some private schools:

As for if any of them have general services that are better than the public schools offer for gifted kids, I do not know. I would guess that most private schools are OVERALL better with their general ed, whereas some public schools may offer certain subsets of classes or programs that could be better.

I would say Collierville schools are as good as any. I have a lot of friends who live in Memphis and send their kids to Lausanne.

For private school, take a look at St George's. Very good school. It's not cheap though. There really aren't any bad choices for public schools in Gtown or Cville either. Both towns are upscale and are full of professional people.

Most private schools don't have gifted pull-out programs, whereas public schools do. Our kids in Collierville public schools both are in the gifted program (one was through SCS, one in the Collierville system).

But in private schools, you're getting smaller class sizes and more individualized attention to nurture higher levels of learning.

Guess you just have to weigh if the cost is worth it. Our kids are having a great experience at the public schools, but have a lot of friends who can't imagine sending their kids to public schools.
