Hello, Where is the worst crime in memphis. I would like to buy some rental houses in North Memphis. Is it getting worst or are there other areas that are more worst.

North Memphis & South Memphis are notoriously dangerous areas. Proof: family & friends that live in Memphis, plus 3-6 Mafia, local Memphis rap stars.

Well lets see...Downtown Baghdad might be worse. Mogadishu, Somalia could be worse. Parts of Afhiganistan could be worse....
That's about it as far as worse crime areas. But, hey, we got good barbecue and Elvis here.

Lets be honest the demographic of Mogadishu, Somalia is probably the same as Memphis' crime-ridden areas.

It sounds like you're talking street crime.
The really high crime levels are at City Hall!

Yeah but lets see you catch a hot blues act in Mogadishu and instead of pork BBQ you would be eating roast camel or something. I think Memphis has just as many AK47's on the street however.
I can almost guarantee the local government in Mogadishu (which is torn in a civil war) functions much better than Memphis. Can we send Harold Ford to Somalia as an ambasador or something, I'm tired or reading about this and that indictment against him and him yet again getting out of court and hoping into his mercedes?

Default Bad areas of memphis

Frayser, Nut Bush, Orange Mound, Whitehaven ( Yes Elvis's old neighborhood), East Memphis, South Memphis, North Memphis.....Bartlet is on the way......The best place is Downtown and you have to be single to enjoy it in my opinion. (Not alot of schools). I moved 10 minutes over the stateline in Mississippi. So much better! If anyone wants more info, I'll give it to ya!

I am in the process of possibly moving from Jacksonville, FL to Memphis. My job location will be close to the airport. I am willing to drive 45 min. to 1 hr. Please give me some good locations to check housing in. MS is ok.

Memphis can go from bad to good back to bad in a matter of blocks. It's hard to give a generlization for what areas are "good." Midtown has some of the most expensive, historic homes in town...but also some of the most run-down. Although, overall crime in Midtown is not as high as in north and south Memphis. Germantown and Collierville are the safest burbs. Bartlett and Cordova used to be good, but are on the way down (but still safe). Downtown is the new "hip" place to live with lots of expensive condos.

Do not live near the airport. Everyone in Memphis knows that either they have to pay an arm and leg to live in town close to work, or they just have to bite the bullet and live way out east in the burbs and drive in everyday. If you have kids....you more or less have to send your kids to private school here. There are only a handful of good public schools, even in the nicest burbs.
