Many borderline people think they are the sanest people they know. They might be to themselves...gonna have to ask their family, friends and therapists if they agree. Its unlikely.
So true. OP probably never came back because she's busy telling everyone she knows how sane she is
I can't believe the OP thinks that Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar Disorder are basically the same thing.
Also, she's very active on other threads (basically active being shot down over her strange responses) so I'm not so sure that her "self treatment" is working as well as she thinks it is.
I've got several immediate family members who are truly seriously mentally ill, two of them with bipolar disorder and at least one with paranoid schizophrenia. Two of them are 100 percent disabled by their mental illnesses and several are less impaired but ALL of them need meds to control their symptoms and make life bearable - if not for themselves, for those around them.
I do have two (out of about five - mental illness runs rampant on my mother's side of the family) who refuse to take any meds and they are both pretty hard to deal with. Also, neither of them are able or even willing to work outside the home due to their untreated mental illnesses. Both of them are just lucky because they live with family members who are willing to put up with their behaviors. Thankfully, they don't live with me and never will - I don't have a lot of patience with people who refuse treatment for any illness, but especially mental illness.
Wow---stumbled onto this---so this explains the name-calling and religious stuff on other threads, like in the Nonromantic Relationships section...
Surprised?
Most posters who have VERY STRONG opinions and the most judgmental posts in other threads are revealing here that they are actually quite troubled themselve.
I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (which has since been suggested as Bipolar II instead) Substance Abuse Disorder, Eating Disordered. I think I also possibly have Paranoid Personality Disorder (I know! who knew it had a name) and God Alone Knows what else they want to throw at me - I think I've covered all the Labels to date.
I'm officially 40% disabled.
However I am one of the sanest people I know.
Also not medicated as such - my medicine is self care. Which of course is a bit hit and miss at times.
Have at it folks.
I am Officially Mentally Ill so anything you want to know, I'll try to answer.
Hi Bonnie Jean
My dear this is one of the bravest posts I have seen in a long time. I too have had mental illnesses for many years starting in my early 20s and Im now 53. I would not have had the courage to be so upfront all at once until recently - kudos to you for this stand that you have taken! I wish you all the help and support that you need in the coming months and years. It is not easy so I hope that you get as much help as you need. Remember as a person you are beautiful inside and those that really care for you will love all the parts that make you who you are - a beautiful and worthy person. I wish you all the best of times.
You would be "classified" mentally unwell too...if you ever met up with a shrink....they have classified EVERY thought and feeling into a "disorder".
