2 years - first month is the hardest - luckily I was only dumb enough to have that bad habit for a few years. Used chantix but half-dose. Also I quit drinking for about 3 months to make sure...
Since Chantrix has been mentioned a couple of times i'd be remiss if i didn't advice people to do some research if they are thinking about using that potentially very harmful drug.

Glad you raised the issue. Essentially it's the same risk they've discovered in anti-depressants. Chantix blocks pleasure receptors in the brain so you get noting freom the cigarette after awile. By the same token you may not feel joy from other stimuli, or have reduced reactions until you stop using the drug.
I was only an ocassional smoker. Whenever there was a crisis in my life , I had a cigarette, BUT then I had a mini-stroke. It scared me to death. The biggest no-no to prevent that happening again, is no smoking. so even though my husband smokes, I stopped, I was so scared of dying.

Even casual smokers are at risk! glad your still here and that you quit. I knew a man my friends father who each night when he got home from work had one shot and two ciggy's! He was into his 50's at the time and had a heart attack! He survived and quit and is still around going into his 90's.

I quit when I found out I was pregnant and started again once I had the baby. But when my 2 year old son watched me smoking and said "Mommy, smoking bad?" What else could I do.
Haven't smoked since (that was 18 years ago). Was hard if went out for drinks and everyone else lit up. I didn't tell anyone because I didn't want the pressure if I failed.
I don't think any more or less of a person who smokes.
Hope all goes as planned.
Have you heard of those electronic cigarettes? I don't know anything about them but saw an ad on them.
Good luck.
