Mexico's Extreme Inequality: 1% Owns Half of Country's Wealth | News | teleSUR English

{I can't find the citation for this yet, but I think I remember...} It is so bad that during the Bush administration there was a proposal to not only send Millions of Dollars to Mexico to fight the cartels, but also to send US troops there to fight the battle. During that time, I remember Carlos Slim and the other Mexican oligarchs sitting back and watching - not lifting a finger to fight for their own country.
Yes we Mexicans suffer from extreme corruption but we have a hope for Lopez Obrador leftist candidate from the political party Morena other parties such as PRI and PAN heavily attack him every day because if he wins in 2018 the corruption empire will fall and the inequality because he growed up being poor along with his family he's the only hope of Mexico 2018 .

I know you're shocked but it's totally understandable since all Americans view Mexico as a poor third world country but the reality is Mexico is a wealthy country more wealthier than Canada Spain and Australia 2.2 trillion USD economy and a GDP comparable as to some Southern little European countries.

Now thanks to our Extreme corrupt government the WEALTH is not distributed properly as it should be.

I'm not getting involved in the rest of the discussion, but I can say this:

1. Africa is 54 different countries, not one country. If you try to argue for your cause by treating it as one country, you lose all credibility to me.

2. Romania (a European country - one of 47) is considered a 3rd World country, not 1st. (Many citizens of Romania are known to flee their country to make a better life for themselves in a rich (European) country.)

3. Corruption is most often considered one of the biggest reasons for a country to be considered 3rd World. Yes, corruption exists everywhere, but the level of which is often what makes the difference between rich countries and non-rich countries.

4. GDP means absolutely nothing in regards to the wealth of your average resident in a country.

OP, are you asking a question or was the purpose to inform us about how amazing Mexico is and how wrong everyone that gives an answer to the question is?

Corruption...Chile is the least corrupt Suda America country and unsurprisingly has become the nation with the highest per capita income.

I have found that it is difficult for one man to change a nation for the better. It will also take the citizens standing up behind the president, making their voices heard and being unified in their goals. Making sacrifices to get what they want.

I hope it works out for you - and Mexico.

Because the top 1% rule with an iron fist.

Development and growth means change. Who wants change? Not the ruling donor class. They want to keep their monopolies, their privileges and the status quo. In any country, a top 1% oligarchy will easily form, rigging the economy to their advantage at the expense of everyone else. And they can manipulate people about religion, race and all sorts of distractions. People dont seem to understand that development and growth only takes place when the ruling 1% are forced to democratize the economy and society. This applies to ALL countries, everywhere at all times. If there is no incentive to change for the ruling oligarchy, then no change will take place. It has nothing to do with race or religion or who colonized or conquered who or any of that nonsense. Thats a distraction.

Is corruption the main bone problem??

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Mexico
YES...Academically speaking... plus the government has drifted away from 16 Diciembre 1811 & 21 Septiembre 1821 acts of independence and their subsequent aspiration for a truly free democracy toward a semi-socialist parliamentary style paternal state (which is not necessarily a "bad" or "evil" form of government but when you couple it with rampant corruption it begins to suffocate the general population economically and culturally and deprive their basic natural cultural identity). No to mention also that Mexico as geographical area has become a prostitute (please excuse my frank expression) to the drug cartels and traffickers, no matter how much like them, fear them or think that they are "Hard Core" etc., they have transformed what, Mexico could be FOR ITS CITIZENS, into a land of disproportion... but honestly I think that most economists consider Mexico to be "In the World" or part of the "Developed World" (i.e., "First world" which is a misuse of the concept by the way) because Mexico does have both a democratic constitution and foreign investment policy initiatives; the country permits and encourages foreign investment in the form of real estate development within the country, and is still a contractual member of NAFTA...

Romania being considered or, even classified, as a Third World Country is because it was essentially torn apart by both World Wars and used as a strategic back-stop for the Nazi's until 1944 when it joined the allied forces and was occupied by the Soviet Union (the Soviets were not particularly forgiving to the "satellites" that it absorbed who were initially its enemy in the start of the second world war)...the Kingdom of Romania lost territories that were essential to "fabric" of Romania but Romania is part of the first world in terms of its history, geography, and economic potential and the country still has a higher (i.e., European/Eurasian) standard of living...citizens can also essentially travel to and from Romania which gives them access to resources ("technically")

the terms 1st world and 3rd world are cold war terms...

they have nothing to do with how developed a country is today, the terms were to group "us" vs "them"

Why? Because Mexico still lacks sewer systems and drinkable tap water. Those basic sanitation commodities draw the limit between developed and developing countries.
