Sad because Mx can build herself into a socio-economic powerhouse if really wanted to.

Spain did it; why not Mexico? Both nations are Hispanic culture.

Being that Spain is majority White is not an excuse either----------Japan is solid First World and is Asian.
I also believe that Mexico has this potential, but now with the economic crisis and rising violence, let's see how the government sails these stormy waters

I think Mexico is pretty much known for "la mordida" or "el cafecito". Our law enforcement will take any bribe over doing the proper paperwork and reject $$$.

That is another sore point.

Maybe if the rich elite (Carlos Slim; are you listening?) decided to pay Gringo wages to their police, judges and everybody in between; a lot of at least the petty corruption would go away. Many better qualified paisanos would then be interested in being cops IMHO.

We are discussing stereotypes in Mexico, not differences between U.S. and Mexico. I personally dont think the U.S. is in any better. Here in the U.S. law enforcement is pretty much monitored with cameras and other devices. You think they dont find other ways to be corrupt? Think again, I've worked with corrections and other law enforcement agencies for years. It's not any better, just different ways of corrupting.

I agree, corruption in the USA works different, but it exists, and I've witnessed it personally

Venom, I think you might have a point but please clarify for us. Are you saying that burritos are a sterotype and it us really a taco? Or that there is much more to Mexican cusine than tacos? U.S. "Mexican" restaurants are filled with over sized tacos.

I also want to add that most people think of beans as the most common source of food which us completely wrong. Our most common source of food is corn. We use it for tortillas, tamales, corundas, pozole, gordiras, sopes, tacazotas, atole, etc.

why you give so importance to one poster that only write ¨tacos¨ ?

any way, the corn and the beans are the most common source of food of mexican, that is the true... or what you put most in tamales, gorditas, etc?

regards...

Agreed, it's called a "cooperative economic model", the main problem is corruption in the Mexican government, like-wise why doesn't U.S. give pressure for Mexico to fix it's government which would also solve many of our problems with illegal immigration? Part of which is corruption on our end of government as well.
