I'm thinking between Fontainebleu and Haulover Inlet, along Collins Avenue.

A tropical version of Las Vegas and the strip, but without the desert heat and the chilly winters.
And when you're done gambling, you can hit the beach!
How would this go down among Miamians and tourists?

Brainstorm!

Why not? It'll bring more money to the city.

I think it would RUIN Miami to introduce Vegas style casinos/gambling.

Historically, Las Vegas HAD to have casinos/gambling because it's in the middle of a desert with frigid winters and horribly hot summers. Like Gertrude Stein supposedly said of Oakland: "There is no there, there."

By contrast, Miami is blessed with a beautiful bay and gorgeous beaches. In addition, there is a gracefulness to many parts of the area's built envinronment: from the art deco architecture of South Beach to the city beautiful town planning of Coral Gables. Bringing in Vegas style casinos/gambling only conjures up images of the gaudy Las Vegas strip and its dreadful facade of faux urbanism.

No thank you.

It might bring more tourism to the area, that means more money. However, IMO, it shouldn't be between Haulover and Fountanieblue. South Beach is enough I think.

Casinos are sort of like BP and oil, government and corruption. if no one keeps an eye on them really bad things happen.

Gambling and unsavory folks go together well.

This idea has been floating around since the 1970s and I think it even made it unto the ballot and was rejected by voters. It was supposed to save Miami Beach but if casinos were meant to be it would have happened then.
I don't think you would see casinos ala Vegas style if it were allowed though since Miami Beach has strict architectural codes now.

I think it would be great .... we already have crime and hookers down here .. so bring on full blown casino gambling and big stars to the beach .... I go to Vegas often and often compare and contrast Miami Beach .. yes the humidity sucks but a Las Vegas east by the beach concept would be great ... it would also bring in much needed money and additional police .... it would not hurt Vegas but would kill Atlantic City which is a dump ... you would have tourism from all along the eastern seaboard , the Caribbean , Latin America and of course the rest of Florida ... but you would need to bring in players like Steve Wynn and Donald Trump to make it happen . I am all for it as it would also create many jobs and given the absence of any real industry down here , I believe that would be a good thing .

I agree with the original OP ... leave them out of the south beach area and build up the area north of the Fountainbleau hotel and up to Sunny Isles .. if I recall as I was a kid visiting here during the summer ... casinos were shot down not by Miami Dade voters ... but it was a state wide vote and of course the Disney lobby and bible thumpers from North Florida shot it down .. do you really think that transplanted New Yorkers and Cubans would have shot down casino gambling in the 70's ... no way !!!
