Hi, I am looking for some advice on where to live in the Miami area. My husband is going to be taking a job in North Miami. I have 3yr old and 10month old children and will be staying at home with them. So, I am looking for a city/community that is family friendly. I would love my husband's commute to be 30mins max. Any help and insight on this would be wonderful!!!!

It is really hard to help without having a sense of your price range.

Please move to Broward County, and exchange a long commute for any form of quality of life for you and your family. I would recommend Weston, Cooper City, and west Davie for good school quality and family friendly atmosphere. All of those should take about a half hour, maybe 40 minutes. If you have any more questions, just ask .

Oh, hope you have at least 325K to spare for a 3 bedroom single family home, and around 390k for 3 bedroom condo/townhouse.

Not sure if you mean northern Miami-Dade County or North Miami or North Miami Beach, but in any case there was a thread recently on neighborhoods in North Miami, and some of the reviews were favorable, at least by Miami-Dade County standards.

Try scrolling down until you find that thread or do a forum search.

I would suggest renting before buying. Asking prices for houses in Miami-Dade haven't really dropped much and in current conditions you are much better off financially renting than buying (unless you have a ton of wealth and a big income).

It's true that Broward County generally offers a better quality of life than Miami-Dade, but a commute can also be hellish.

Please do a careful research of neighborhoods before deciding, Aventura for example. Perhaps you can provide the exact location of your husband's job, and also some budget ranges for renting/buying, so that some people on this forum can provide more incisive information.

All the best!

All the best!
Take it from a Broward resident, this is true. Broward County itself would more likely than not be almost nothing in the way of traffic, (take the 75 to the turnpike extension east (I am not sure if they provide an exit though), in which case you could take Miramar PArkway to Red Rd. and ditch congestion anyway. Get on from there, take the empty Turnpike into the golden glades, and from there on you would have a mess, but you are almost there anyway.

You can use Zillow - Real Estate Valuations, Homes for Sale, Free Real Estate Information to find the prices of houses and condos in Miami (and the whole country, actually). That might help you narrow your choices.
