It could be private , alot of PED bridges built around the country these days are private unless tied to another project like Road widenings or a new Transit stop.

The old bridge pedestrian crossing is not wide enough to allow two cyclists or pedestrians to pass eachother, despite it being part of the widely-used "Route 1" bike path. It's comparable to widening a busy road that has 9 foot lanes, in other words, a legitimate use of taxpayer money for public safety purposes.

Now let's see how long it takes CG to get the pedestrain overpass at University Station up. The existing "no pedestrian" signs there are a joke for a crossing that has a major university (actually, the third largest employer in the County) and a Metrorail station.

hey! bike riders need their space too :P not just a few inches of bike lanes in Coral Gables, besides Miami is not very pedestrian friendly.

Yes you see people walking and riding the bus. But for most people in Miami, they don't live in walking distance of a Publix or their work. Many buses don't run in residential areas like in NYC or in South Beach for instance. So taking the bus to go to Publix in the middle of August isn't an option for many of us, let alone carrying your groceries back with a high chance of getting rained on.

This is also the case in the part of Aventura where I live, 20 miles outside of downtown. Sunny Isles Beach and some parts of North Miami Beach also. However, it's not quite to the level of pedestrian friendly. I'm not even convinced Brickell is there yet, though much of Miami Beach is there.
