Are there any neighborhoods in Miami with a funky kind of vibe to them? You know...hippies, surfers, artists, environmentalists, liberals, etc. Towns or neighborhoods where it's more of a "live and let live mentality--- herb smokers, green peace types, community activists, egalitarians, etc.

For example, California has Santa Cruz, Berkeley, Parts of Venice beach in LA. Ocean Beach in San Diego.... etc.

Does Miami or anywhere in south FL have any towns/neighborhoods like that?

Miami Beach probably comes closest, perhaps also the up-and-coming "upper east side" neighborhood and Wynwood (not in midtown itself though). It's still going to be a limited subculture though.

Coconut grove use to be like that long time ago, now the hip place is the Wynwood area.

I was going to say the same. Miami these days doesn't really lend itself to funky, hippy.

There was a gathering of liberal activists by Government Center station last Saturday. They did a protest and were actually pretty nice people to talk to.

I'd guess they hang out by Churchill's Pub and Wynwood if you wish to seek them out.

West Coast, granola style hippies aren't easily found in Miami. The closest you will get are urban hipsters who can be found in the Design District/Wynwood.

The ganola hippy types left Miami in the 80s and 90s.

Urban hipsters are still funky/artsy.

Yes, Miami is very diverse, but just like every other city, the type of diversity is unique. Consider New York City. Unlike the rest of the country, Puerto Ricans are the majority of the hispanic population. Diversity varies.

Is this a trolling thread intended to put down Miami? It sure feels that way to me.
