Coral Springs would be well over an hour drive during peak hours.

Did you look in to Miami Shores or Miami Springs? Older homes but good neighbourhoods. Sky Lake and Highland Lakes in North Miami Beach are also decent. How much is Redlands nowadays? In Broward, I'd also suggest looking in to Hollywood or the Pines, perhaps even Weston. There are express bus park-and-rides to downtown and Brickell in case he doesn't want to drive the whole way every day, Tri-Rail will also (supposedly) have a stop in downtown soon, if not it would be a transfer to Metrorail, and you'd probably make better time on the express bus.

first baby ... moving to a predominantly hispanic county ... I would rent for at least a year in Brickell. You will feel better knowing that your husband is 2 minutes away. Then start looking around Miami Shores, El Portal, Coral Gables.

I am so happy I got alot of people to tespond to my question. It helps a lot. I have several members of my family move from Miami Dade to Broward in the 90s. I have been fully prepped on what Miami brings to the table, and it is goid to hear the same things feom others whom are not family. Unfortunately, the legal market is not as great in the other cities close to my family as Miami. There are good, firms. Just not what my husband was looking for. So it's a toss up. Take a hit hit withhousing, or a hit with the career. I think it's kind of funny....that you all assume we are a white family wanting to stay away from any diversity. I got my laugh for the day.haha!

Thanks hurricaneman, my husband doesn't mind public transportation and would actually prefer it, so he could possibly get some work done at the same time.

That's because when you say "decent neighborhood" in South Florida, it's code word for "white neighborhood". And then you use Coral Springs as an example. I think it's a fair assumption, all things considered.

Ha, ok. To be clear, I mean the price range of coral springs sfh for a small family in their 30's. And by decent neighborhood, I mean safe. A few years ago I lived downtown in a ritzy yuppy area that was still high crime. A man was shot outside my window. I would rather not have my daughter grow up with that.

Try looking in Davie and Cooper City. They are farther south than Coral Springs and will shave at least 20 minutes off of your commute. Pembroke Pines is also an option. For a family moving from Missouri, Broward County will be far less of a culture shock than Miami. The Brickell area is a big downtown area with huge skyscrapers. There are many nice condo buildings there, and you could consider renting there for a year. I have no idea about the schools in Brickell.
