CNNMoney.com: Doral, Fort Lauderdale among top 100 for business

CNNMoney.com has ranked two South Florida municipalities among the top 100 places to live and launch a business in the United States.

Doral, in western Miami-Dade County, was No. 51. Fort Lauderdale was No. 70.

The news outlet canvassed the country to find cities with "the best mix of business advantage and lifestyle appeal."

It said Doral presents a unique experience to its residents and business owners by offering world-renowned golf courses, residential developments, arts, culture and top educational venues.

CNNMoney.com cited Doral as a small business hot spot, especially for entrepreneurs active in the Latin American market. For example, Doral is home to the broadband provider Brightstar, the nation's largest Hispanic-owned company.

Doral was incorporated five years ago, and now has an Economic Development Department.

"I am very proud of the fact that as a 'new' city we have been ranked this high," Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez said. "Since incorporation, our motto has been to be the premier place to live, work, learn and play. This ranking shows that we have been successful in working towards our vision."

CNNMoney.com said Fort Lauderdale's "hottest businesses are a reflection of the subtropical climate and locale. Pleasure-boat construction and services are a major sector, while the tourism industry, in general, stays strong, thanks in large part to the Canadians and Europeans attracted to the weak dollar."

The news outlet also said Fort Lauderdale offers a lively downtown, with museums, galleries, live music, theater and fine restaurants.

Doral is indeed a nice place to live. But it's also not a place the average Joe can afford to live.

However, in terms of Fort Lauderdale I think most can agree with me when I say that the city isn't good to live in but the outskirts are.

I agree that Doral is a good place to live. But I personally don't like very much, it's like a new ( and somewhat better ) West Kendall.

And Fort Lauderdale, depending of which neighborhood, it's good to live ( like Fort Lauderdale Beach, Las Olas, Victoria Park,... ) or bad to live ( like the area around Sistrunk and some areas between I-95 and Turnpike ).
