what do these "most scientists" predict that's going to make the rate of sea level rise change that much? a asteroid hit?

it can't be global warming....global warming has had no effect on the rate of sea level rise in Miami

....for the past 100 years....the rate of sea level rise in Miami has been flat consistent

less than 1 foot every 100 years...~1 inch a decade.....global warming has not changed that one bit

global warming better get it's act together if it's going to change from 1 inch a decade....to almost a foot a decade

Do you think everyone will just abandon south florida because of these projections? The thing is that many of us already grew up learning various doomsday environmental projections, one after another that never came true...that we would run out of oil long ago, didn't happen. That we will over populate the world into oblivion and by now, run out of food, resources, land, you name it...we are ok and on track for global population decline....guess what? Nature is unpredictable and the models aren't usually correct. There's a natural order and balance to things that corrects itself in unforeseen ways. I'm not saying we shouldn't be responsible or plan ahead but realistically speaking looking at the way America tends to handle things there's not usually much significant planning for future problems and when they are very real, immediate and unavoidable wide scale problems we may lift our head from the sand and throw some ad hoc solutions out after bitter arguments to put a bandage on it. The other possibility with big problems or potential problems is that the issue gets exaggerated and blown up to be a false crisis situation to suit an agenda. And of course politicized. So what is your desired outcome here? What I am not seeing on this thread is any reasonable action steps or productive conversation were anyone listens to hear one another.

Corrie22 has repeated this EXACT line of deceitful statements several times in the Florida forum. His arguments are NOT supported by the graph he repeatedly links. Corrie22's conclusions also are NOT supported by the scientific analysis and projections prepared by NASA and NOAA, nor by the projections of the coalition of southeast Florida counties, as discussed earlier in this thread, and otherwise in the Florida forum.

Corrie22's ultimate conclusion: "global warming has had no effect on the rate of sea level rise in Miami." As explained and documented in this thread, this is a preposterous statement.

What's insulting is Corrie22's oft repeated deceitful statements.

My intent in posting articles from reputable sources wasn't to enable Corrie22 to rebut them with falsehoods.

Obviously, if Floridians recognize the dire nature of accelerating sea level rise, then, like California and many other states, as well as most nations, hopefully they will stop feeding at the climate change denier trough and act to help wean our nation off of fossil fuels. Developing coastal areas in complete disregard to the reality of accelerating sea level rise also is a prescription for disaster, within a few decades, according to the experts.

The crisis is NOT "exaggerated" nor "blown up to be a false crisis situation" as you suggested in your post, and as should be obvious if you had read the materials linked in the thread. Claiming as you do, that nature is unpredictable and "models aren't usually correct" given the increasingly accurate empirical data is merely anti-scientific slop, as will become obvious perhaps within a few years and certainly within a few decades

You still didn't answer the question.....

What is going to make the rate of sea level rise change from ~1 inch a decade...

....to almost 1 foot a decade?

Global warming has been going on for over 70 years and has not changed the rate one little bitty bit

You've really bought into the Big Lie technique of constantly repeating false statements and arguments, hoping that due to repetition alone, deceitful propaganda will become believed!

I've explained accelerating sea level rise repeatedly in this thread, and also repeatedly debunked and documented the inaccuracy of your Big Lie rant. Others should get it, even if you refuse to do so.

Readers also can read through the following thread (or just check out the information linked in post 172), even though the thread is riddled with your same sophistry as well as that of other climate change deniers.

//www.city-data.com/forum/flori...celerates.html

I should update that thread to include scores of relevant articles such as the following one and correct any of the Big Lie propaganda that I've ignored in the past.

Candidly, accelerating sea level rise and climate change negative impacts (now serious discussion of naming heat domes/waves, just like hurricanes and tropical storms) are so obvious and constantly reported, that it hardly seems necessary, except for persons who get all of their news from Fox or some other source of anti-scientific propaganda.

Accelerating sea level rise and its consequences will be increasingly and painfully obvious even in the years immediately ahead.

Default "Why should you stop frolicking in Miami-Dade floodwater? It’s probably full of poop"

One way to survive climate change in Miami is to recognize that the frequent flood waters are polluted and dangerous, and to treat them accordingly, due to flooded septic tanks and sewer systems. Also, stay away from beaches until bacterial counts have returned to normal levels.

<<Flooded streets have become such a way of life in South Florida that most people wade right through the puddles. Sometimes, when the ponds are a bit deeper, they even pull out kayaks, paddleboards or wakeboards.

That makes public health experts cringe because that floodwater is likely pretty gross, often tainted with human and animal waste, among other foul things. It’s so gross that Miami-Dade County regularly warns residents to stay out of it or scrub up after touching it.

“It is absolutely full of bacteria and god knows what else,” said Rachel Silverstein, Miami Waterkeeper. “I don’t even want to think about all the industrial runoff.”

Exactly how gross isn’t clear, however. No agency monitors it and there haven’t been published research results about South Florida’s floodwaters in years....

And with an extra foot of sea level rise on the horizon by 2040, Miami-Dade residents will probably be wandering through many more floods in the near future.>>

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...262384162.html

<<The sewage spills led to no-swim orders and beach closures, some of which weren’t lifted until nearly two weeks after the storm. They’re only removed after counts of enterococci bacteria, a sign that water could be tainted with poop, fall to an acceptable level for two days in a row.

Four days after the storm, Miami Waterkeeper recorded bacteria levels 1,000 times higher than safe levels in waters near Morningside Park, where a sewage system spilled about 1,600 gallons.>>

Corrie couldnt even read her own data correctly- she was given multiple sources and for a while it shut her up. She's made disparaging remarks about minorities and loves to post a headline every time one commits a serious crime. You're wasting your time.

Over 95% of Scientists agree with climate change and perhaps 90% of Trumpers with no education do not. Guess who falls in which category.

Education is important but some refuse to get any.

Can you cite the source for the bolded part from your comment? Please provide a link. I would like to read the article to which that claim is attributed.

I read an article recently that stated that the cleaner air we have now due to save the environment initiatives has removed particulate from the air, which is causing the sunlight to more easily get to the earth and thus warming up us faster. Interesting the efforts to cut down on pollution are speeding up warming.
