I was born & raised in Michigan and am now sweltering in Houston (aka Bagdad on the Bayou) Texas. I've been looking over the posts here and was thinking about all the great food that I really miss from home.

White fish - both fresh and smoked
UP Pasties - sigh - never taste as good when I make 'em here
Coney Island hot dogs & Coney fries - the chili dogs I've had here are just sad
Greektown flaming cheese and that wonderful greek bread
Michigan cherries and apples
Cider mills for fresh cider & fresh doughnuts
White Castle burgers - yeah - I know I can get 'em frozen but they just don't taste the same

Boy I miss Michigan for the food....and the lakes and the festivals!

Default I'm with you!

I miss the wonderful weather in Michigan. The actual seasons, the snow!
I hate living in Katy, the heat & humidity suck!
I only got to live in Michigan for a year, but would give anything to move back!

It's far from mediocre. Where else can you find such fresh trout, blueberries and cherries, so many ice cream stands and Vernor's ginger ale? And don't forget fresh apple cider in autumn.

Farm markets with the best homemade breads, freshly picked corn on the cob, church festivals with fried chicken dinners. Plain mom & pop looking diners that serve excellent and affordable sandwiches and meals when you want a break from the big chains or expensive dining.

Besides in Michigan especially in the northern woods, there's nothing like grilled Spam when coming back to the campsite after a long hike or river rafting or canoeing.

Its only mediocre until its not available. It takes on a whole new life when yo want it and the only way to get it is to either get on a plane or beg a family member to send it to you. Took me 3 years to get over the cravings for Sanders Hot Fudge! People just don't understand the importance of comfort food you grew up with

Oh the Cider Mills!! I'm in the south now and there's places with their own apple orchards but they don't make their own cider, least not like in MI. Still tastes store bought to me. And the doughnuts.......yum! They're not about doughnuts here.

And someone mentioned about comfort foods. Well, its always been said that good ole southern cookin is the best.... not to me. It's full of potatoes and grits. Yuck! I like potatoes, but not in every meal.

I've never had Morels before, and I don't usually care for mushrooms.... But ya never know, maybe I'd like 'em.

Ever heard of boiled peanuts? That's common down here.....eew.
