I've seen that northern Michigan has already had it's first snow's. What's the hold up? I know I know it's early but I want some snow nooooooow!
Has anyone heard if they are calling for a lot of it this year?

We've had a dusting, but that's it so far. We are very, very behind on snow fall. This is one of the worst winters, so far, I've ever seen.

One of the reason I moved back to MI from AK was because I missed the snow. Where I lived in AK the average snow fall is much less the here in northern MI. But, of course this year MI is way behind and AK has gotten much more.

Here are two forecast maps from NOAA for this winter.

So it's your fault! You move back looking for snow, so none of us get it .

If you want snow this early then move to Alaska. Otherwise, try to become familiar with your climate.

Detroit AVERAGES 2" of snow in November. So it's not uncommon to go through pretty much snowless Novembers. In fact, lately Detroit's winters haven't started until mid or late December.

So don't worry, you'll get your snow, maybe plenty of it, soon enough.

Most of Alaska gets very little snow compared to northern Michigan and the UP.
I don't live in Detroit, so I expect snow by now. The ski resorts don't even have snow on them and they are open 99% of the by Thanksgiving. Not this year.

Yeah, it's my fault we don't have snow. I should have known better.

Ok, I truly enjoy shoveling snow. It's a nice workout and a good excuse to be outdoors.

Highland is in Oakland County.

In my book, and since it was my post, Metro Detroit = Detroit, and Metro Detroit includes the tri-county area by the official measures.

No one cares about the statistic in Highland, with a population of less than 20,000.

The point is, climo doesn't support much snow in November around these parts. On the other hand, up north in Michigan, where Nephler is, maybe. Then again, they've been having crappy witners overall the last few seasons too. If you want snow in November move to Alaska (they may not see much snow in terms of anything significant at once, but now overall, but it does snow in November in parts of it more than it does Detroit), Greenland or even the far Northern Plains.

But you'll get your snow (the snowiest month is February on average BTW).

So according to maps posted above we are supposed to be 40% colder and have 33% more snow. I wonder what that means for cloud cover? I hate how cloudy it is here in west MI.
