How's the job market looking these days as it was terrible a couple of years ago. I'm contemplating a return to SE MI as the cost of living in So Cal is insane. You pay through the nose for a lower quality of living vs MI. I'm in my 30s, single and have an MBA from a local MI school. I'm flexible with industries and looking for a reasonable mid level non-professional corporate job. Do you think I'll have a hard time finding a job if I relocate back? Thanks!

I have a sneaking suspicion that the white collar job market is still extremely competitive--both in Michigan and nationwide. MBAs, for example, are a dime-a-dozen.

Unless you are dead-set on being in Metro Detroit, you might improve your odds if you open up the search to other parts of Michigan. Grand Rapids has some good economic momentum going right now. Ann Arbor also might be worth a look. But, again, not sure if those are options for you. You will get similar gains in cost of living anywhere in Michigan.

It all depends on your field and level of experience. Quant-heavy fields are very much in demand right now (finance, accounting, market research). Soft-side skills like general management aren't as much.
