Just did a car insurance quote with one company and with nothing included it came at 4794$ or 394$ monthly although they did discount by 10$
This is not normal

Just to make sure I understand:

$4794.00 per year to insure an old car?

Very hard to believe. What is the make, model and year of the car, and what is your driving record?

And have you maintained insurance for at least six months prior to this quote, or whatever the requirement is? Are you under 21? I think that's another factor. Also you'll get a surcharge for not having medical coverage.

Even so, I also find this hard to believe.

B.S.

Good Lord, if you hate it here so frigging bad, leave. You come on here and make claims that are so far fetched nobody will believe you, or they are just outright lies that are so easy to see. Like you can't grow a garden... even though MI is one of the top ag states in the Nation; cherry picking items to claim grocery prices are super high; now 5k insurance for a beater car.

One of my sons friends just got an older car from his Grandmother... 95' Grand Prix, he is just 16 years old (3 months ago), never had insurance before , parents are making him carry his own insurance and not on their policy. He pays a little over $125 a month. So either you are: 1) A terrible driver with a horrendous record. 2) Young and driving a very nice car while claiming it is a beater. 3) Someone who has been driving without insurance and got caught. 4)lying. 5) a combination of several/all of the other choices.

Yup. I also call either BS or we're not getting the whole story.

I have an acquaintance, a woman in her mid-50s who is on disability and drives rarely; a few times per month. Her car is a maybe 15-year-old POS Ford Escort. Her credit is not stellar according to her (also a ding on auto insurance rates.). Not sure about her driving record. No DUIs. She lives in an extremely high-premium zip code (Flint). Basically she is not a good insurance risk.

She got pulled over a few months ago on expired tags and was ticketed for not having insurance, so she had to get insurance, and quite rightly so. She told me the cheapest PLPD she could find was about $140-something a month for the first six months but if she maintained it the premium would drop dramatically at the six-month mark.

That's significantly less than what you were quoted. So you're either an absolutely awful driver who shouldn't be driving at all or there's something rotten in the state of Denmark.
