Why is it so important for some people, that they feel it is necessary to have other people know that they are a disabled veteran ? Trying to make other people feel sorry for you ?
I am a disabled veteran (I have to walk with two crutches or use a wheel chair - my body parts below the waist are now useless ...) and I only have the blue card (Like heck will I ever pay for a disabled license plate !) to hang up in front in order to once and a while be able to park in a disabled only parking spot.
Most of the time I do not find one and when I wait I can see a perfectly OK person walk back to the car with the blue sticker and get in and drive away ...
I usually stay in the car while the wive shops, so I can observe who comes and goes for those spots.
In winter, she drops me off right in front of the entry and then she parks the car somewhere ...
Many of them not really disabled but just too fat to walk normal !
Aw nuff sed !

If that blue card is for you and you are not entering the store you have no business using that blue card.
The blue card is if the person walking to the store is handicapped.
Not if the person staying in the car is.
There was an article in our local paper to that effect. Also, if the driver is not handicapped, they are supposed to drop the handicapped person off at the front door and park in a regular spot, if the handicapped person does not need assistance getting in and out of the car and can be left unattended for the time it takes to park the car.

That would be a violation of federal and Alaska State law so would be unenforceable if anyone challenged it. Local municipalities can enact restricts all they want but the first lawsuit would render it moot.

It's not discrimination. Discrimination would be giving white 100% disabled veteran's plates, but not black 100% disabled. You're not the same as someone who is 100% disabled, so we're not treating similar people differently. You are 30% disabled.
This is not true, discrimination signifies a class of people, its not just about race. Moderator cut: rude

They didn't say that was the only reason that could be called discrimination, they were giving one example of many. They were right. You were wrong. You joined up to post that about a 2yr old post?
Please educate yourself with:
-The date in the top left corner the post was made.
-Signify; that is not the appropriate word as used, nor is the sentence structure correct written that way. Discrimination does not signify. The discriminator classifies people. If its by race, that could be racism.
-Sentence structure; Your first sentence should have been, "This is not true."
I hope with this being the kind of posts we can expect from you that you stick around a long time, and continue make such quality posts.
Please also educate yourself with "sarcasm".

I have had DV plates since at least 1991. At that time, I was only rated 10% disabled. I was fighting the VA for other disability ratings. It took many years, bit I am currently rated 100% disabled.
I would like to point out that having DV plates does not give you any privileges or benefits.
DV plates are not Handicap plates. They are two different things!!!

You have no way of knowing if the person you see is disabled or not. You can't tell by looking. They don't have to be staggering around to be disabled. Perhaps they have a heart condition, or spine condition that keeps them from walking very far.

It's amazing how many people don't understand this. In Alaska, DV plates alone do not allow parking in handicapped spots. Only after you have met the State of Alaska's criteria for getting a handicapped license plate will you be issued DV plates with the wheelchair symbol, assuming you already meet the VA's criteria. Getting DV plates without the wheelchair symbol simply means you meet the VA's criteria for being disabled. And the VA's criteria is totally different than the state's criteria.
In Texas, certain disabled plates get free or reduced tolls.
