I took my TS/SCI from one contractor to another. You don't lose your clearance, you lose your access. Big difference.

His problem is his interim tag. If company B offered him a job, they should have known that. The investigation won't stop because he left company A. Company B can get him another interim.

Your word choices are wrong. You don't lose your clearance, you lost access. Huge difference.

he hasn't left company A yet, he wasn't going to until company B completed the clearance and he had a written contract which he was also waiting for.

yes someone at work told me clearance follows you just your access will be different
i've never held a clearance job myself. I am posting because I'm trying to understand why company B retracted their offer from him when they explained that Company A has an interim clearance for him.
Just trying to understand myself and support him on what he can do at this point.

how though, when they offered him verbally the clearance investigation on their part/end hadn't started..

As I recall, what you need is your latest SSBI date. So long as you get a fresh 'new' SSBI every four years, you are good.

You give your latest SSBI date to your prospective employer and they can verify it.

Once they have verified it, then they can re-instate your clearance as needed.

I think they've extended that. It might now be as long as ten.

Company B does not want to spend the money or time that it requires to get your friends clearance access updated and available to company B. They want Company A to do the work to complete the process for an approved clearance and for company A to spend the $, then company B does minor updating effort to obtain a fully certified clearance access.
