Well, you were a bit closer to Frankfurt than I was.. must've been nice. Did you have family with you? You were/are Airforce?

I hear ya.. it was my "lost weekend". I've got great memories of my time in Germany. I wish I would've traveled more.. but you know what.. that was my 1st duty station and I was still getting acclimated to the whole military experience. The friends I had there.. the times we shared.. they're priceless.

You still stay in touch with the people you met there? And.. wasn't it crazy knowing that you weren't a part of the American culture during your time in Germany? That was one of the most unique experiences for me.. being the outsider.. lol.

We retired from Grafenwoehr, Germany. Absolutely loved the many years we spent there. Lots of good memories and really good friends. Thankfully we still keep intouch and our door is always open to them if the decide to visit.

Spent some time living near Ramstein AFB quite a few years back.

Would loved to have been stationed in Garmisch.

Flagrrl,
I have now lost contact with all of them, but did write to several as long as I had addresses. I would love to find some of them again. I did feel isolated from the states and it took me a long time to catch up on everything when I got home.
There was a ice cafe (ice cream parlor) near the base where a lot of us hung out. Best ice cream in the world, and it was the only place I've ever seen where you could actually get drunk eating ice cream. Some of the dishes had liqueur in them. We always took the newbies there and bought them as much ice cream as they could eat.

Three years (82-85) at Rhine-Main AB, loved it. I consider it a 3 yr European vacation.
