Ahhh the old inferiority complex question.

Will Chicago ever get over its inferiority complex with the coasts?

As someone who has lived in both cities and being from neither...this one always amuses me. People from Chicago feel slighted by cities like New York...etc...that it is flyover country. Etc...and this attitude gets trickled down. Some Chicagoans are determined to increase their self-esteem by discussing how better Chicago is than Milwaukee. This is a poor attempt to hide their true hurt feelings of the above. It's like the kid who was picked on in school who goes and picks on another kid.

Separately there are some Milwaukeans who fall right into this for a variety of reasons...frustrations in their own city as well as being tired of hearing from Chicagoans how much better Chicago is than Milwaukee.

Of course the reality is these are two different places with their own pros and cons..

Now in terms of apples to apples and comparing Milwaukee to a more comparable area or Chicago to a more comparable area...that would be different.

I can't see your logic. Consider the following:

34 commercial radio stations playing classical music in the U.S

Source: Media Life Magazine

If I use your logic then a vast majority of the company has no significance.

Who does this?? Who are these people that "talk" about other places in condescending ways?? I have lived in both MKE and Chicago and can honestly say I don't think the vast majority of population gives a hoot one way or the other.

hmmm- this is a wierd topic.

I don't think the Chicagoans who live in Chicago give two craps about Milwaukee. It's more the people who move to Milwaukee from Chicago and can't shut up about how much better Chicago is (even thought they can't seem to stop visiting and moving here).

As a Chicagoan I couldn't disagree more. I actually like Milwaukee and have had some fun times there. Most folks that I know do not talk down about Milwaukee. Obviously, there are those that do.

Anyway, Chicago's so-called 'inferiority complex' comes only from New York City, not coastal cities in general and even that's not nearly as bad as some make it out to be.
