I find it interesting that the Metrodome survived the 1991 Halloween Blizzard but not this one. Was it colder and windier this time, preventing folks from removing snow in a timely manner?

Ha, the biggest of all boon-doggles, the Duluth Aquarium. What a nightmare. But.. If it had turned into the Upper Midwest's/Western Great Lakes biggest attractions, then somebody would have been a genius/hero. However, that wasn't really the case. It was pretty evident that the place was going to fail.

I think there was much more wind this time. I don't remember the snow blowing and drifting like this during the 1991 storm. Lake Minnetonka still has spots of bare ice because of the wind even though around 20 inches of snow fell.

If some of the road tax money does not get diverted to snowmobile trails, there should be a "no road tax" pump at gas stations for snowmobiles to use.

New freeway, great access, new hotels, great restaurants, water park, Aquarium, proposed high speed rail, cheep land.
Lets build it in Duluth we get everything else given to us.

Caution this user may use sarcasm in a fashion you may not be accustom to.

What if the roof didn't rip?
It sounds like an excuse.
Like getting a new car because it needs new tires.

And, in other news - "In 2010, the process of getting legislation regarding a new stadium for the Vikings got started too late. This year, steps already are being taken to ensure that doesn’t happen again."

What a coincidence? Do tell... reminds me of living in New Jersey in the 70's. Several bars, restaurants and other establishments with suspected Mafia ties burned down - at 6AM, from gas fires. Fire inspectors going through the rubble would find the oven and heater gas jets turned full on. But they all collected insurance money. And we got a great TV series out of that time and place.

And it wasn't just the Jersey mob. I knew a guy who had an art studio in some historic Lowertown St. Paul warehouse. One late afternoon around 1980 he was leaving his studio, and noticed the stairwell fire exits were all propped open. Being a conscientious tenant and citizen, he went up and down the stairwell, closing them. That night, the warehouse burned to the ground - the fire could be seen from Minneapolis - and when the fire inspectors went through, what did they find? The fire exit doors had been jammed open.

But insurance paid the loss to the building owner, and everybody was happy - except my friend, who lost everything. But for his story - a warning to the rest of us.
