I know we couldn't support 2 of any other sport, but in the home of hockey could it work. Now I have no clue about hockey being a brotha from Minneapolis, but I think it would be a great rivalry with St. Paul.

We can hardly support one, no way would we support 2. We have a better shot supporting 2 football teams I think.

I'm feeling deja-vu, was this very topic not discussed in these message boards a few months back? If you look at the financials for NHL teams you'd see that right now nearly half of the teams in the league are operating in the red. If I'm not mistaken Minnesota is somewhere in the middle and barely in the black. The league is already too big, what the NHL needs to do is remove 2 teams and move a few others from the sunbelt back up to Canada where they have fan support.

For example, Phoenix and Carolina could be removed from the league, and they could move Florida and Atlanta to Quebec and Winnipeg.

Probably not. But I think upstate MN should get a team -- sort of like Green Bay is for the NFL. I think almost any city could sell out, but the best options are St. Cloud and Duluth.

I rarely hear NHL hockey discussed around here. Admittedly it might just be the people I know, but people seem far more likely to discuss the Twins, Vikings, or the Gophers (basketball, etc.). I don't know if anyone I know has been to a game. Probably, but if so it hasn't come up as a big deal. I sometimes hear talk (and see signs, etc.) for youth or adult hockey so hockey culture is definitely alive and well; that just doesn't seem to be translating into interest in pro hockey. I might not be hanging out with the target Wild demographics, though.

Interesting thought about upstate MN; it does seem like it would do better up there. Less competition from other sports, and maybe a bigger hockey culture.

Pro hockey is pretty popular as well (it must be the demographic you hang around with), and the Excel Arena is widely touted as one of the best pro experiences in sports -- you should see what you're missing!

P.S. I am not really a hockey fan, but I know hockey fans

Excel Center is nice, but how full is it during a hockey game. You can have the best facility in the world but the facility isn't the draw, the team is.

You should really research this stuff before getting cynical about it -- it's the "team of 18,000", so to speak, and has sold out for like 7 straight years before last year's Great Recession. It's almost always full.

I wasn't being cynical, I was asking a question because I have no idea how many people attend Wild Games on a regular basis. We had one of the Wild Marketing Reps visit a business group I was in and he was saying the season ticket sales were down significantly. That is the only reference I have to go off.

I think that has more to do with the recent recession than anything else. Not to mention the Wild are perennial losers.
