Yes I did forget to mention that. So much greed to keep track of.

Downtown core if the plans go through to turn the Metrodome into a residential neighborhood.

Mpls could save lots of money if, instead of turning the Dome into a residential neighborhood, they put some money and effort into near North, which already is a residential neighborhood.

I could see the population moving into more densly populated areas. A lot of people affected poorly by the housing market may choose to live in an apartment for a while.

That would be cool if they made more dense communities in the suburbs so we dont overcrowd the cities, Many people move to dense areas because they want to be walking distance from places and not have to waste there money on gas.

For example The shoppes at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove

Imagine if they built up from the stores so people can live upstairs.

For example

I could see that happening if places were developed with a more small downtown type atmosphere instead of these huge shopping center developments. More multi-use developments. Some people may like to rent an apartment in the middle of everything like you said. Many smaller towns have buildings with a storefront and a couple stories of apartments above them. That could bring in a little extra income for whoever owns the building.

We're seeing some of those developments in suburban Atlanta. This place is about four miles from me:

Welcome to West Village in Smyrna
Town Park - West Village

It's really cool.

Not sure if anyone posted any of the numbers from the Metro Council, but the link is below. They have predicted a rebound in the core and inner ring suburbs with growth in the suburbs too. With some policies that look to increase public transportation and transportation improvements closer to the core it might stand to allow higher densities in the core and inner suburbs plus the higher household population with minorities in the core too.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the Vikings actually want to rebuild on/near the Dome site, probably killing that plan. I wanted the Dome to be gone in favor of a new urban park/lake/village there!

Interesting stats, but they do appear to be old. They predicted Minneapolis' population at about 400,000 for 2010, which the Census has shown isn't close at all. I'm guessing these stats came out pre-recession, because I think Minneapolis at that time was expected to grow quite a bit.
