A lot of things have changed. In the early 2000s Minneapolis had such stringent anti-panhandling and loitering laws that they were struck down by the state supreme court. How did we go from that era to the lawlessness we have nowadays in just 10-15 years?

Years ago I used to live near a small side street that drivers would often take if traffic backed up on a main road nearby. So a group of hipsters who lived there put up a sign on a stoplight that said "Residents Only" because they didn't like the noise and traffic. Cops threw away the sign by the end of the day and were going around looking for the person that put it up.

How the hell is it okay that a small but loud group can lay claim to a PUBLIC street? Disrupting traffic, business, emergency vehicles? Absolute insanity.

From what I understand (from one of the few times the so-called local news reported on this area, which IMO they should be reporting on it every day or at least every week) is that residents within this "autonomous zone" are being extorted to leave their alleys.

From what I understand, the city is negotiating to reopen the intersection and has offered to construct some kind of memorial at the curb where George Floyd died, but there is still no agreement on what will happen to the big black fist in the middle of the intersection. Once they resolve that issue, there will be some other obstacle, because there really is no way to satisfy the people they are dealing with.
There isn't. Those people will never be satisfied no matter what, even if the clowns on the city council proceed with disbanding the police entirely. I guarantee if the city tries to even as much as touch the big fist, they will be quickly met with an army of 'peaceful protesters' all over Powder-horn doing what they do best.

So, in a few years, can the Big Fist statue be pulled down without interference from the police as other statues have been torn down in the past year?

Asking for a friend.

I am from Minnesota and don’t live 15 minutes away anymore. I also like hearing news about these type of things. There is no such thing as too much information on a forum. So why not keep your off topic opinions to yourself? There are other threads you don’t need to post in all of them.

Is it still there?

Cruz was responding to the OP - who does live in the area - and asked the OP to post their findings of the area to the thread.

Wouldn't that add to the information you are seeking here?

It is my opinion that it was more like harassing or dissuading somebody from posting a thread. Once something is posted replies like that are unnecessary. It doesn’t add anything. Perhaps the OP doesn’t want to venture into such a zone? If there is a hurricane around the corner should i ask about it here or go drive into it then report?

Whatever the case it just comes off as snarky and unpleasant. A better way of replying could have been something like “has anybody been over there lately?” Or simply nothing at all if you have nothing to add.

I think you need to assume positive intent.

Also, 38th and Chicago and a hurricane are not at all comparable.

MPR did a series of roughly hour long interviews on the subject.

If you want a specific news organization put the following in a search engine: Minneapolis autonomous zone and then add the specific news agency you are interested in. There is plenty to both read and listen to about the subject.

Now, if you were really just wanted to bring up the subject, there is no reason to go through the subterfuge of not knowing how to find information on the internet or claiming you can't get that information from the news.

Since you wrote this. I suspect you just wanted to bring up the subject (by reading your last post) vs. not knowing there were articles available. You can post on subjects or bring them up without the acting unless the post already existed.

Do you think the local news has a duty to report on this matter? or in your opinion would covering such a matter be derelict on their end?

I watch the news daily. I am a news junky - I watch all the local channels to keep an eye on their shenanigans (how they manipulate the population subtly and otherwise) and I think I have seen this matter reported on a couple times in the last...however long this circus has been going on.

In my view, it is a total indictment of their business that they refuse to report on it, and I think lives could be in danger because of their dereliction of duty.

Post #2 in this thread answered the question. I learned it while watching the local news.
