If Oakland is like Mpls., Oakland must have cleaned up its act. Otherwise, you are just feeding everyone a bunch of poppycock. Stop it. There is never a fortnight with six murders, but you wouldn't know that assuming (from your posts) that you live 2,000 miles away in Calif.

I think the key is the number of reported crimes for both cities. I've lived in both cities, and I can say without hesitation that Minnesotans are far more likely to call the cops and report problems. I can only speculate as to why that is, but I think part of it is because home ownership is so high so Minnesotans don't move around as often as Californians and therefore have a bigger incentive in solving neighborhood problems as the crop up.

I think you came up with another good reason for high crime rates: transiency. Any places with a high transience rate could have higher crime rates.

As for MPLS this year, not nearly as violent as alot people would try to say.

Hmm... I guess all those diners sitting in the outdoor patios on Nicollet Mall must fend off gang members by shooting rounds off between bites. Yea its real grimey out there.

Minneapolis is no where near as bad as Oakland and the best day in Oakland is still worse the the worse day in Minneapolis. Sorry, there is no comparison.

Just as I thought. The OP has no idea what he/she is talking about.

How the heck did my old thread come back? It's over a year old.

By the way, I'm sticking with those original crime stat numbers from back then. That's what came off city data at the time. Granted, Oakland is seeing many more murders of late than Minneapolis, but my comparison was with the overall crime index.

I'm hoping that my beloved Minneapolis has turned the corner. I'll be arriving from California next month to visit my old Uptown neighborhood. It takes someone to leave town for awhile to make an objective observation about trends in the neighborhoods. I'll do that for you guys and report back with my "man on the street" findings! I'm sure you can hardly wait.

Now let this thread go back into obscurity. The Twin Cities has a GOP Convention coming to town. Lets put on a happy face.
